A critical equipment failure took down Hawaii County’s fiber network Thursday.
The network could be down through today.
“Due to financial considerations, the county does not carry inventory of the spare parts necessary for quickly swapping out switches,” the county said in a press release. “The cause of the failure is not known at this time.”
County technicians were trying to troubleshoot with specialists to repair the system as soon as possible.
According the county, the failure will result in the Driver’s Licensing and Vehicle Registration, and Real Property Tax divisions not being able to process transactions and Parks and Recreation will be unable to process camping permits; however, pavilion permits can be processed manually.
Phone service to individual county offices will be intermittent until the system is repaired.
First water and now fiber? The director responsible should be fired immediately.
No money to keep a spare switch in inventory.
So, no money to have spare parts on hand for our county water system, or our fiber network to run county offices, but money to hand out 27% + raises to everybody in county government for doing at best, a lack luster job. WHY do these people get re-elected?????? We need a serious house cleaning from top to bottom in government. Come on people! We deserve better, but everyone needs to be pro-active and vote! Perhaps then we could elect some folks with new ideas and management styles, and get something done. West Hawaii County is long, long overdue………………..
