Man drowns Sunday in Waipio Valley

A 38-year-old man apparently drowned Sunday morning at Waipio Valley Beach, according to a written Hawaii Fire Department statement.

Thirteen units, including both county helicopters, responded to the 11:24 a.m. alarm, with the first unit arriving on scene at 12:01 p.m.

Bystanders performed CPR on the man until HFD personnel arrived, according to the statement, but efforts failed to resuscitate the victim, who has not been publicly identified.
