The Big Island Substance Abuse Council will celebrate its sixth annual Summer Jam from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. July 28 at Hilo’s Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium.
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council will celebrate its sixth annual Summer Jam from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. July 28 at Hilo’s Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium.
BISAC was awarded $1,700 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs’ ‘Ahahui Grant to support the Summer Jam’s Health and Fitness Fair. Each year, the Summer Jam provides a free, fun-filled event for the whole family.
Admission to Summer Jam is free. There will be entertainment, keiki activities, a Strongman competition, ono food, crafts, silent auction and inspiring and educational exhibits.
“We are so grateful for OHA’s support in helping BISAC make our annual event a success,” said BISAC’s CEO Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita.
In addition to supporting BISAC programs, this year’s event also will contribute to Puna lava relief efforts and a food drive will benefit the Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank.
“I will be pulling a truck full of donated items to support such an amazing cause,” Preston-Pita said.
Since 1964, BISAC has been inspiring individuals and families to reclaim and enrich their lives in the wake of the ravages of substance abuse and mental health. It offers a continuum of services that are culturally appropriate and aligned with the ever-changing behavioral health field.
