Mahalo for article

I’d like to thank reporter Tom Callis for writing the article about Hawaiian Paradise Park (Tribune-Herald, Oct. 28) in which Councilwoman Eileen O’Hara sought to extend a deadline on completing a master plan for the county’s park in our subdivision.

The story was pivotal in informing residents that this was being heard Nov. 1 by the council’s Committee on Finance, and also was alarming to the lot owners and board that Ms. O’Hara alleged she obtained the association’s support to do so.

Four lot owners attended the Committee on Finance meeting Wednesday to inform the members that no one from HPP ever approved or supported the intention to extend the deadline, which was a critical whereas clause in O’Hara’s Resolution 374-17.

Resolution 360-16, which the previous councilman brought forth, contained two provisions that stated: (1) a completed master plan for the park was due two years from the date of conveyance and (2) if a completed master plan was not available by that time, the transfer was deemed invalid and the director of finance was directed to revert the parcel back to the HPP Owners Association.

The successful conveyance of the lot from HPPOA to the county was March 17, 2016.

At the end of the hearing Wednesday, Ms. O’Hara withdrew her resolution, but would she have done so if she had not been called on it? Truthfully, I doubt it.

So, thank you for writing the story, Tom.
