The Vested Interest in K9s Inc. nonprofit — VIK9s — announces its 2015 color calendar featuring Hawaii State Sheriff’s Division K-9 Team Deputy Rollin Cannon and Deputy K-9 Robbie for the month of May.
The calendar is now on sale online at www.vik9s.org. Proceeds from the sales will provide bullet- and stab-protective vests for K-9 teams in Hawaii and across the nation.
“Protecting K9s is our Priority” is the motto of Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
“Over the past four and a half years, with generous donations from individuals, organizations and businesses and lots of volunteer hours, we’ve helped vest over 1,100 law enforcement dogs, locally and nationwide. Each vest costs $950, which comes with a five-year warranty,” explained Sandy Marcal, president of the nonprofit.
“We’re really excited to offer this nationwide calendar, as it shows a variety of law enforcement departments, police dog breeds, and general activities of K-9 teams. We have German shepherd dogs, Labrador retriever, Dutch shepherd, Belgian malinois and a bloodhound in the calendar. Law enforcement K-9s from Alaska, Hawaii, Chicago, Florida, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Ohio, Maryland and Massachusetts are featured.”
Late last year, Gov. Neil Abercrombie looked on as five Hawaii Deputy Sheriff K-9s donned their vests in public for the first time at an unveiling hosted at Washington Place.
“The loyalty and service demonstrated by these animals are worthy of recognition, and we are grateful they are being given added protection as they work alongside their human counterparts to enforce the law,” Abercrombie said. “These vests complement recently expanded protections provided by Act 205, codifying the term ‘law enforcement animal’ into the Penal Code, which I was pleased to sign into law.”
All goods and services for the calendar were donated by generous sponsors, photographers and participating law enforcement agencies for police dogs actively working without the potentially life-saving equipment. Secure online ordering of the 2015 K-9 calendar is available at www.vik9s.org. Tax-deductible donations for VIK9s are welcomed via the website or by mail: Vested Interest in K9s Inc., P.O. VIK9s is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit, all-volunteer charity whose mission is to provide bullet- and stab-protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States.
