‘Downtown Hilo’ on display at Wailoa Cultural and Art Center

“Downtown Hilo” is a continuing series, dating to 1975, on display at Wailoa Cultural and Art Center in Hilo. Photographs were made within the boundaries of downtown Hilo: Wailuku River to the north (Hamakua), Bayfront to the east (Makai), Ponahawaii Street to the south (Puna) and Kapiolani Street to the west (mauka), some with more-distant views of the area. This photo is by Norman Negre, taken in 1979 at the intersection of Kilauea Avenue and Ponahawai Street.
