‘Journey to Independence’: Makana headlines fundraiser for Hale ‘Oluea Clubhouse

Loco Moco Productions presents a fundraiser for Hale ‘Oluea Clubhouse, “Journey to Independence,” a night of food, music and entertainment featuring internationally acclaimed singer, composer and Hawaiian slack-key guitarist Makana from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 16 at Sangha Hall in Hilo.

A special dinner menu will be prepared by Cafe 100 chef Jason Morton. There will be prize giveaways, a silent auction and special desserts by Maebo Noodle Factory and Cupcakes Boom!

The evening also includes a performance by Hawaii acoustic duo and Mesa Boogie artists Two Souls, Jeremiah and Blue Augustine, and an ukulele artist recital by students of music store Hilo Ukulele &Guitar.

“Come and enjoy some good local food, good music and good friends for a good cause,” said Jeremiah Augustine. “Many hearts and hands have given their kokua to support an organization and individuals that help fellow community members and families who are in need of assistance.”

The nonprofit Hale ‘Oluea Clubhouse is a comprehensive psycho-social rehabilitation program for adults in East Hawaii who had their lives drastically disrupted by serious and persistent mental illness.

Members are offered services to improve the quality of their lives through meaningful work, positive relationships and gainful employment, building on their strengths and abilities to acquire or improve skills needed for successful reintegration into the community and to increase their quality of life.

Tickets for the family friendly, non-alcohol event are $70 in advance or $80 at the door (children 6-12 are half price) and are available at Cafe 100, Big Island Guitars and CD Wizard.
