The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites the public to its free Genealogy Fair from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 12 at its Hilo Stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave.
The theme of this Family Discovery Day event is “Celebrating Families Across Generations,” featuring keynote speaker Manaiakalani Kalua.
Workshops are included to help strengthen family ties — past, present and future. Participants are invited to discover how to find names to add to family trees and learn new techniques to preserve family legacies.
“Find out how to share your discoveries with others and be inspired with new ideas,” said Ann Sakamaki, one of the fair organizers. “Knowing how to start your own genealogy and being able to share this information allows your family legacy to live on.”
Conference topics include:

• “Finding Boxes of Trash Can be a Chest Full of Gold,” Pat Mood.
• “Keeping Oral History Alive,” Patti Noda.
• “Family Search Resource Tools” and “European Records on Family Search,” Kerry Peterson.
• “Social Media and Apps for Family Search,” Sean Benito.
• “Online Research,” Maile Kaopua.
• “Interpreting Locations,” Manaiakalani Kalua.
• “Understanding How to Use Delayed Birth and Probate Records,” Patrick and Wanda Cardines.
• “Evolving Names Through Culture and Place,” Sandi Tajon.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. the day of the conference. People can pre-register at hilofhc.wixsite.com/index.
Registration forms also can be picked up and turned in from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the Hilo Family History Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave., or by calling 935-0711.
