Annalina Lozano, a Parker School 10th-grader, won first place in the 2015 Kaha Ki‘i 2nd Congressional District Art Competition for her photograph titled “Pride.”
Annalina’s art piece was chosen out of 121 submissions. Along with her $1,000 prize, Annalina’s “Pride” will be displayed all year round at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The award was presented to Annalina by Gov. David Ige and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. Annalina, 13, plans to put her award money toward tuition at the Chicago Art Institute summer program.
In addition, Parker’s Mia Scibelli, a 12th-grader. has earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art &Writing Awards of 2015. She won a Scholastic National silver medal award for her art piece, “Twin.”
Mia, 17, was identified by panels of creative professionals as one of the most talented young artists in the nation. This year 300,000 works of art were submitted across the country and only the top 1 percent were recognized at the national level.
Mia was invited to attend a special ceremony June 11 at Carnegie Hall.
