The annual Recycled Trash Costume Competition, open to contestants ages 18 and older, is planned in conjunction with the Trash Art Show gala opening at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Hilo.

Ira Ono, founder and juror, and the museum, invites the public to create and compete, or just come and admire.

The art show will be on exhibit from Sept. 6-24. Admission is free. Interested creative folks may submit their take on “trash art” for the art show competition either Friday or Saturday, Aug. 29-30. Awards will be presented for best costume, best concept and best use of recycled materials.
