‘Stellae Errantes’: Elephant paintings for the 21st century

“Stellae Errantes,” a series of elephant paintings by Sarah Soward, will be on display Aug. 7-25 at the EHCC/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art in Hilo.

An opening reception is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. The exhibition is free to the public.

The exhibition combines depictions of elephants with ideas of the astronomy and mythology of our solar system.

During the HMOCA’s open hours, Soward will be in the gallery working on depicting the supercluster galaxy system of Laniakea by way of Hawaii’s endemic bird species. Dwarf planets and moon phases also are on her to-do list. Everyone is invited to stop by and watch.

EHCC/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 141 Kalakaua St. For more information about the exhibition, email sarah@ sarahsoward.com.
