UH-Hilo choirs sing spring on April 27

The University of Hawaii at Hilo choirs will present their spring choral concert, “We Sing the Spring,” at 2 p.m. Sunday at the UH-Hilo Performing Arts Center. The Kapili Choir and the University Chorus are conducted by Amy Horst and accompanied by Walter Greenwood on piano.

Climate change talk at UHH

The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host a seminar featuring David Helweg, director of the Pacific Islands Climate Science Center (PICSC), at noon today in Room 118 of the Science and Technology Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Daily music and talk-story events this week in downtown Hilo are featuring the music and literature of Hawaii. Everyone is invited to the free programs being presented in tribute to the 51st annual Merrie Monarch Festival at Basically Books at 160 Kamehameha Ave.

‘Life in Colors’ workshops, fashion show feature Izukura

In conjunction with the gallery opening of Akihiko Izukura’s designer art and fashionable attire show at Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art at 141 Kalakaua St. in Hilo, at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, Izukura will present to the community of Hilo hands-on techniques used in creating wearable designer and fashionable clothing for women from silkworms.

Donations to help victims of Cyclone Ian

The Free Church of Tonga, the Rev. Tupou Tatofi and all of the members would like to extend a big mahalo to Matson, Dependable Hawaiian Express, Young Brothers, Honsador Lumbers, KWXX Radio, Kai Store, Salvation Army and all of you who helped the people of Ha‘apai recover from Cyclone Ian.

Each Saturday, the Tribune-Herald is publishing a photo from the Lyman Museum’s John Howard Pierce Photography Collection. The museum is seeking help identifying the people and places in the photos, most of which are from the 1950s and ’60s. THIS PHOTO (NO. 168) was taken in May, but the museum is not sure of what year.

‘Peter Rabbit’ to visit Hilo library

The Honolulu Theatre for Youth will present “Peter Rabbit and the Garden,” a special stage production of the Peter Rabbit story, at five Neighbor Island public libraries from April 17-May 6. The Friends of the Library of Hawaii is sponsoring these free programs.
