When there’s a hot bowl of mac n’ cheese in front of you, it’s hard to remember to eat slowly. The makers of Hapifork, a new high-tech eating utensil, are hoping their fork will serve as a small reminder not to shovel the entire bowl into your mouth.
Hapifork is an electronic fork that helps monitor how quickly you’re eating and also tracks your eating habits over time. If you’re eating too fast, the fork lights up, then zaps you with a little vibration.
Every time you take a bite to eat, the Hapifork records it as a “fork serving.” The Hapifork measures how long it takes to finish your entire meal, how many fork servings you take per minute and the time between fork servings.
All of the information is uploaded to Hapi.com, where you can track your eating habits. According to the product website, the Hapifork goal is to prevent weight gain, digestive problems and gastric reflux all through slower eating.
