Blaze destroys home in HPP

The Hawaii County Fire Department reported a structure fire on Government Beach Road in Hawaiian Paradise Park around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters first arrived about 5:15 a.m. and found a 30-foot-by-40-foot, three-story building engulfed in flames and collapsed to the ground. Responding units had the blaze extinguished by 6 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire, and the house was believed to be vacant at the time of the fire.

The cause remained unknown as of a press release issued Sunday morning.
