Couple allegedly ran marijuana farm

A Puna couple has been arrested and charged for allegedly operating a marijuana farm at their Hawaiian Paradise Park home.

At 11:55 a.m. Friday, Hilo Vice Section officers served a search warrant at a home on the 15-1900 block of 31st Avenue. They recovered 674 marijuana plants ranging in height from 6 inches to 4 feet, 80 clones, and 6.94 pounds of dried marijuana. Police arrested 62-year-old Cyra Kalama-Lopez at the scene. She was charged with first- and second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, plus two counts of drug paraphernalia. She was released after posting $19,000 bail.

Several hours later, her husband, 52-year-old David Lopez, turned himself in at the Hilo police station. He was charged with first-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, two counts of second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana and three counts of drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting $26,000 bail.

Both are scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court on July 24.
