Extended furlough inmate Jason Cantan turned himself in at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in Hilo at 11 a.m. today.
The 37-year-old Cantan failed to report for his scheduled check-in Feb. 18 at Hale Nani Reintegration Center. Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the facility but must check in at various times each week.
Cantan was serving time for identity theft and promoting prison contraband. His next parole hearing is scheduled for April of this year. He faces an additional escape charge, according to a written statement from the state Department of Public Safety.
