Kapiolani extension advances
The Kapiolani Street extension took another step forward last week with the approval of easements over state land.
The state Board of Land and Natural Resources granted the easements for land near the Waiakea Stream on Friday.
Under the county’s plan, the road would be extended from Lanikaula to Mohouli streets. The road is currently disconnected between those intersections.
The county Department of Public Works expects to advertise for bids for the approximately $13 million project in June. Completion is anticipated in 2016.
At the meeting, BLNR also granted a new 65-year lease to the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority for the former HGP-A geothermal test site.
