Pahoa Village Road was reopened to through traffic between Apa‘a Street and Post Office Road on Wednesday.
The approximately 0.5-mile section of the road was closed to nonresidents Oct. 26 as the June 27 lava flow entered Pahoa.
Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira said he is requesting motorists not to stop to try to get a view of the stalled lava flow, which stopped 480 feet from the road Oct. 30. The hardening lava flow is on private property.
Police and a Hawaii National Guard unit will be present on the roadway to ensure trespassing doesn’t occur, Oliveira said.
Meanwhile, lava continues to advance from breakouts upslope of town.
As of Wednesday morning, surface flows were 3.2 miles from Apa‘a Street.
