Woman sought in shooting
A Holualoa man who was shot in the chest Friday morning was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
The woman believed responsible for the shooting had yet to be apprehended as of press time Friday.
At 7:47 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound on Waiono Meadows Road in Holualoa, according to police. Police identified the road as Waiono Meadows Road, however, the posted street sign identifies it as Waiono Ranch Road. The incident occurred approximately 1/2 mile up the steep road.
The 26-year-old victim reported he and his girlfriend had been walking down the road when they encountered an acquaintance driving up the road, according to police.
After the victim and woman in in the car got into a confrontation, the woman in the car reportedly shot him with a rifle.
Capt. Chad Basque, of the Criminal Investigations Division, said police had received conflicting reports about the make and model of the vehicle the alleged shooter was driving.
The woman then fled in the car in the direction of Highway 180, according to police.
Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives are investigating the shooting as an attempted murder.
Police did not release the victim’s name.
