Manuel “Manny” Yona Kaapana Jr., 77, of Keaau died Thursday, June 20, at his home in Paradise Park. Born in Pahala, he retired as a truck driver for Kuwaye Trucking. He played softball in the kupuna league for Hui O’ Na Kalohe. Family and friends may gather at the family home in Panaewa on Saturday, July 26, at 2 p.m. Survived by wife, Sally Kaapana of Keaau; son, Camron (Cheryl) Kaapana of California; daughters, Nani Kaapana of Kona, Caroline (Susu) Kaapana of Hilo, stepdaughter Patti (Del) Lanhart of Washington; sisters, Mildred Naeole of Maui, Edwina Desmon of Kansas; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Kealoha Kauwe, 93, of Hilo died Sunday, June 15, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalaoa-Kona, she was a homemaker. Private services held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. (Ligaya) Laniawe, Richard Kauwe Jr. and Stanley (Kelly) Kauwe of Hilo, Henry (Nora) Kauwe of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Leroy (Juana) Laniawe of El Cajon, California and Danford (Vivian) Kahele of Captain Cook; daughters, Grace (Gary) Kauwe of Las Vegas, Nevada, Helen (Tom) Kauwe of Lakeside, California, Julia Kauwe of Vista, California and Lyla (Dave) Kauwe of Hawaiian Paradise Park; sister, Mary Kuahiwinui of Hawaiian Beaches; sister-in-law, Anna (Bernard) Lopez of Katy, Texas, Ramona (David) Keliiheleau of Honolulu and Momi Florendo of Waianae; brother in-law, Gregory (Ida) Kauwe of Kihei, Maui; 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Arthur Vance Martin, 51, of Pahoa died Monday, June 16, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Lanai City, he was a heavy equipment operator for Hawaiian Earth Products. Private services to be held.
