Roger Delamen Ambago, 64, of Captain Cook died April 28 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Naguimba, Banayoyo, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a sous chef at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel and member of Central Kona Union Church and its worship team, an organizer of special events and a driver for the elderly. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 16 at Central Kona Union Church in Kealakekua. Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation again 8-10 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at the church. Funeral service at 10 a.m., followed by burial in the church cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship to follow in the church’s hall. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Survived by hanai mother, Lucia Segundo of Captain Cook; brother, Marcelo (Dina) Ambago of Ubbog, Salcedo, Illocos Sur, Philippines; sister, Soledad (Felipe) Dela Rosa of Purok Kamia, President Quirino, Sulpan Kudarat, Philippines; hanai brothers and sisters; nieces, nephews and cousins. Josephine Barney, 87, of Kailua-Kona died April 24 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, she was a homemaker, farmer, a seamstress for the Royal Court, kumu Etua Lopes halau and kumu Wayne’s halau, master lauhala weaver, hula dancer at Kona Inn, Uncle Billy’s and Bamboo Restaurant, Hulihee Palace docent, tireless community volunteer and organizer, and member of St. Michael’s Church, its choir and ukulele group. Celebration of life will 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at Hulihee Palace. Service at 10 a.m. Fellowship and refreshments at 11:30 a.m. Survived by sons, Cirilo (Kate Winters) Rosario Jr. and Michael (Kristine White) Barney of Kailua-Kona, Edward Rosario of Ocean View; daughters, Lorraine (David Brophy) Kono-Brophy, Shirley-Hauoli (Marcus Wong Yuen) Yamaguchi and Annette Rodrigues of Kailua-Kona, Mary (Bark) Shannon of Holualoa; brother, Joseph Palacat of Aiea, Oahu; sister, Carmen Comer of San Diego; 15 grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Catalina Dayanan, 64, of Keaau died May 1 under care of Hospice of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a crew leader for Maunaloa Macadamia Nut Co. Visitation 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home. Service at 6:30 p.m. Survived by husband, Gregorio Dayanan of Keaau; stepmother, Norma Pabro of Keaau; son, Gregorio (Carrie Ann) Dayanan Jr. of Keaau; daughters, Trina (Peter) Grace of Hilo and Maria (Nelson) Goya of Honolulu; brother, Antonio (Evelyn) Pabro of Keaau; sisters, Rosaline Almazan, Annaliza Pabro and Maria A. John Michael Handley, 64, of Waikoloa died May 9 at home. Born in Santa Monica, Calif., he was a general contractor. Services held. Survived by wife, Carol Handley of Waikoloa; son, Sean Handley of Bend, Ore.; daughter, Shannon (Robert) Smith of Waikoloa; brother, James (Donna) Handley II of Visalia, Calif.; four grandchildren.
