Irvin “Irv” Theodore Carlsen, 100, of Keaau died May 14 at home. Born in Susanville, Calif., he was a retired radio broadcaster, member of Seniors of Paradise Park and Seniors of Pahoa and honorary member of the Eagles. Services pending. Survived by companion, Janet Tebo of Keaau; daughters, Beverly Lynd of Keaau, Elene “Lene” (Gary) James of Santa Rosa, Calif., Sandra (Bob) Conley of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Christine Effinger of Havilah, Calif.; son, David Carlsen of Santa Barbara, Calif.; stepson-in-law, Richard Carter; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two cousins; nieces and nephews. Born in El Paso, Texas, she was a bilingual teacher in Paso Robles, Calif., and member of San Miguel Mission in California and Thy Word Ministries Faith Center in Hilo. Bettimae Wailani Johansen, 93, of Lahaina, Maui, and Ahualoa died May 17 at her Ahualoa home. Born in Lahaina, she was a retired Hawaiian quilter, lei maker and sushi demonstrator at the Marriott hotel in Kaanapali, Maui, and member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Visitation 1-2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Honokaa Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Memorial service at 2 p.m. Casual attire. Maui services at Lahaina Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at a later date. Survived by son, Albert Johansen of Pearl City, Oahu; daughters, Irmanetta P. (Wendell D.)
