Alberto Fidel Fernandez, 83, of Waimea died Sept. 9 at home. Born in Honokaa, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked at a tomato farm in Waimea. Visitation from 8-8:45 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 12) at Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea. Celebration of Mass at 9 a.m. Casual attire. Burial to follow at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Survived by wife, Annie V. Fernandez of Waimea; sons, Mark (Bhelle Bautista) Quitog and Marionne (Joanne Soriano) Vitacion of Waimea; daughter, Xyleanne Althea Vitacion of Waimea; sisters, Erlinda F. Helen Louise Gabriel, 73, of Honokaa died Aug. 17 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paauilo, she was a park caretaker for Hawaii County Parks and Recreation, retired from Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 14) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kukaiau Catholic Cemetery; casual attire. Survived by sister, Geraldine Gabriel of Honolulu; brother, Joaquin Gabriel Jr. of San Leandro, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Florencio Domingo Gonzales, 75, of Papaikou died Sept. 13 at Avalon Home Care in Honolulu. Born in Laoag, the Philippines, he was a retired tomato farm worker in Waimea and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Visitation from 5-9 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 14) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 7 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Final services and committal will be at a later date in Laoag City. Survived by wife, Dominga Gonzales of Papaikou; daughters, Marissa (Felipe) Vinoya of Papaikou and Annabelle Gonzales (Danny) Tolentino of the Philippines; sons, Roberto (Jobeth) Gonzales and Crisanto (Maricon) Gonzales of Papaikou; daughter in-law, Myrna Gonzales of the Philippines; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Locardia Makaiwa Hanoa Gouiveia, 74, of Hilo died Sept. 15 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Ka‘u, she was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. farm in Ka‘u and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ka‘u Ward in Naalehu. Visitation from 9-11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 14) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ka‘u Ward. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Casual attire. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory. Survived by son, Frank M. Gouveia Jr. of Kona; daughter, Jennifer N. Gouveia of Hilo; hanai son, Danny Saplan of Pahala; hanai daughter, Leslie Rosario of Pahala; sister, Caroline (Thomas) Hada of Hilo; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two hanai grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Katherine “Nalani” G. Smith, 71, of Ocean View died Aug. 2 at Kona Community Hospital. She was born in Hilo. Visitation from 8-10 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 11) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes at noon Saturday at Milolii. Survived by sons, David (Raquel) Brown of Mountain View, Robert (Leilani) Brown of California, Jason Smith of Arizona; brother, James (Merle) Maiwela of Hawaiian Paradise Park; sister, Betty Ciotti of California; hanai sister, Raelyn (Roger) Schmidt of California; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Paul Douglas Warner, 63, of Hilo died Sept. 14. He was born in Honolulu. Visitation at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 11) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1373 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.
