SKIN & SKY ART SHOW 

Where: Wailoa Center, Hilo

Details: Opening night for Skin & Sky, a group exhibition of paintings, ceramics and sculpture by Eide Hansamut, David Hubbard, Tim Johnson, Shelby Smith, Esther Szegedy and Robert Weiss. On display at Wailoa Arts & Cultural Center through Jan. 24.

‘RHINOS AND CORSETS’ HEADED FOR HILO

‘ENDANGERED HAWAII’ 

Where: Mokupapapa Discovery Center, downtown Hilo 

When: 7 p.m. Jan. 10 

Details: New 30-minute film, “Endangered Hawaii,” explores ongoing bird extinction crisis in Hawaii. Followed by question-and-answer session about the film and American Bird Conservancy work in Hawaii.

Where: Laupahoehoe Beach Park 

When: 9 a.m. Feb. 23 

Details: Braddah Smitty’s Laupahoehoe Music Festival committee (Malama Hawaii Nei) invites food and craft vendors to participate in eighth annual festival on Feb. 23. Deadline to apply is Jan. 11.

THE ‘NATURAL HISTORY OF HAWAII’ 

Where: Lyman Museum, 276 Haili St., Hilo 

When: 7 p.m. Feb. 4 

Details: Local historian and master storyteller Boyd Bond recounts how the Hawaiian Islands evolved with the immigration of plants, animals, and humans, and how the ancestral tales told by the Polynesian settlers were adapted to include Hawaii’s plants and animals. $3; free to members.
