BONE MARROW DRIVE 

Where: Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair, Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium 

When: 9 a.m. April 6 

Details: Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry will register donors to help save lives of patients with such blood diseases as leukemia, lymphoma and aplastic anemia. Hilo resident Ke‘ala Lee Loy has leukemia and her only hope is a bone marrow transplant. Donors of ethnic minorities such as Hawaiian and other Native Pacific Islander descent are urgently needed. Donors need to be age 18-44, meet health guidelines and be willing to donate to anyone.

SPIRITED SURVIVORS BREAST CANCER SUPPORT 

Where: ‘Imiloa Sky Garden 

When: 11 a.m. April 6 

Details: Group meets in a supportive, informal peer-led setting. Survivors share information, experiences and concerns. The group also provides social support and encouragement for those newly diagnosed. No-host lunch available. No fees. Meets the first Saturday of each month.

HEALTHY LIVING WITH DIABETES 

Where: Hilo Medical Center

Details: Hilo Medical Center’s Diabetes in Control Program is registering participants for its ongoing nine-week course on managing diabetes by improving nutrition, exercise, and personal health habits. Two sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 10:45am– 12:15pm and from 5:00pm– 6:30pm. Pre-registration is required and those enrolled are encouraged to bring a relative, friend, or caregiver.

Details: Share concerns and experiences in a positive and supportive environment. Prostate Cancer survivors assist others in understanding new and unfamiliar terms, medical language and procedures. No registration fee. Meets the second Thursday of each month. Caregivers are also encouraged to attend.
