Folks of all ages will enjoy colorful wintery floats, marching units, bands and, of course, Santa Claus in his first major appearance of the season. This photo was taken at last year’s event.

Details: This year’s theme is “A Boogey Woogey Christmas.” Enjoy diverse display of entries in these categories: marching unit, marching band, small float, large float.

SASANA: THE BURMA PORTFOLIO 

Where: Lyman Museum, Hilo 

When: Through Jan. 12 

Details: Journey deep into Burma and experience a Buddhist culture rich in tradition and history. The special exhibit Sasana (acts of kindness) is a collection of large-format black and white photographs taken between 2006-2011 by Dr. Steven Garon, a volunteer with Aloha Medical Mission.
