Where: Kona Coast Shopping Center, Palani Road
When: 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 27
Details: Geocaching is a treasure-hunting game where you use a GPS to hide and seek containers with other participants involved in the activity. Anyone who has heard of, or is interested in, Geocaching, or who owns a GPS, is encouraged to attend this event. No experience necessary, as volunteers will show you how and where to find a geocache. $2 fee, to help cover event costs. There will also be a lunch debriefing at 1 p.m. at the Harbor House. PARK ‘N’ BARK DOG AND CAR WASH FUNDRAISER
Where: UH-Hilo Theater parking lot, 200 W. Kawili St.
When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 27
Details: Hawaii Island Pre-Veterinary Club benefit to support upkeep of UH-Hilo feral cat colony; $5 small dog, $7 medium dog, $10 large dog, cars $10, and a “$15 car/ dog special.” All animals must be leashed.

KAIPALAOA PARK CLEANUP IN DOWNTOWN HILO
Where: Kaipalaoa Park, ocean side of Waianuenue Avenue
When: 8 a.m. Jan. 27
Details: Gov. Neil Abercrombie has signed the papers to give Hilo a surf park. Come join the Kaipalaoa surf crew for the monthly cleanup of Hilo’s small community ocean park at the gateway to Hilo town. Park at Koehnen’s and walk to the lighthouse on the water across Highway 19.
