POWWOW

Details: Everyone invited to three-day event; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. Drumming, Native American dancers in regalia, fry bread, fun things for kids. Hoop dancing on Saturday and Monday. Craft fair. Taiko drums on Saturday, hula kahiko on Sunday.

Interfaith Memorial Day
SERVICE AT PUNA HONGWANJI MISSION in Keaau

Where: Puna Hongwanji Mission, 16-592 Old Volcano Road, Keaau

When: 10 a.m. May 26

Details: Interfaith Memorial Day observance to pay tribute to military men and women killed in action in past wars and current conflict. Coordinators will honor all from the Puna District who gave their lives in battle. Veterans groups, ministers, families, relatives and friends of the honorees will attend. Guest speaker Bob McElroy, public affairs officer from U.S. Army Garrison, Pohakuloa Training Area. Refreshments afterward.

BONYU KAI BONSAI CLUB
EXHIBITION

Where: Waimea Community Center, next to Waimea Park

Details: More than 50 bonsai showcased by the club, which has been holding meetings for more than 50 years. Free. Come talk story and view the bonsai. The show is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday.

Details: Booths and demos; 72-hour kit, ham radio, food storage. Women can get instructions in making a survival shelter, signaling for help, collecting clean water in the wild, etc. Activities for keiki. B.Y.O. soda/juice, sports equipment, chairs, swim clothes for children; for training, wear closed-toe shoes.
