‘Wizard of Oz’ to hit the stage
A cast of 52 volunteer performers from the community has been chosen for the family-friendly musical “The Wizard of Oz” and rehearsal is under way. Heading up the cast is Robin Baker as Dorothy and Boba as her canine companion Toto.
Auntie Em, who is also Glinda the Good Witch, is played by Melissa Atwood. Uncle Henry and the Oz Guard will be portrayed by Tim Bruno. Farmhands Zeke, Hickory, and Hunk, who become the Cowardly Lion, the Tinman, and the Scarecrow, will be played by Kelly Drake, Bowen Ressler, and Bryan Riley, respectively. Janice Baber will play Miss Almira Gultch, who morphs into the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ricky Delorey II is Professor Marvel, who becomes the Wizard of Oz.
Lee Vinson, who is the show’s choreographer, will appear as the Oz Beautician and the Jitterbug.
A large ensemble will play various supporting roles such as Munchkins, trees, crows, poppies, beauticians, polishers, manicurists, Winkies, ghosts, jitterbuggers and flying monkeys.
This group consists of Joie, Alexus, Jacob, and Joy Agard; Minami Asbjornson, Eva and Tim Bates; Cheyenne, Dallas, and Dakotah Begay, Sarah and Breanna Bellatti, Ciara and Riley Blaber, Maddy Bram, Paula Cornwell, Saffy Datta, Emily Dungate, Cathy and Simon Ellis, Nora Frank, Eugene Gall, Alicia Hicks, John Hulen, Mia Kriebl-Bruno, Tiffany Kutsunai, Miles Lugo, Fiona Lynch, Taylin Mandaguit, Malia Mielke, Alisha Nazara, Jade Onaka, Steven Orton; Keaton, Tanner, Regan and Tara Riley, Sarah Rouse, Keawe Strance, KT Turner and Justice, Nicholas, and Pamela Wong.
APAC’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” is the Royal Shakespeare Company’s adaptation, paying homage to the 1939 MGM film.
The show will be presented at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu Feb. 15-March 10, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25, $20, and $10, and are available online at AlohaTheatre.com, by phone weekdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., or at the theater box office beginning one hour before curtain time.
