Fun Walk for kids on Jan. 26

Mark your calendars for the upcoming First Annual Fun Walk – Ohana Fun Day from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Herbert Shipman Park in Keaau.

This event is sponsored by the Puna Community Action Team and is free.

PCAT is a community-based group of agencies, schools and community members whose mission is to promote a healthier community by providing activities such as this Ohana Fun Day.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to participate.

Registration will take place on the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. The walk for elementary students will begin at 8:45 and 9:45 for middle school students. The course is approximately 1 mile and a parent or guardian is required to remain at the park during the event.

Show your school pride by wearing your school shirt. Covered shoes are required and shorts and a water bottle are recommended.

An awards ceremony will begin at approximately 10:15 a.m. and trophies will be presented to schools with the highest participation of students. The trophies will remain in the schools’ possession for one year. There will be three categories of winners based upon the size of the school.

Following the run there will be free entertainment, make and take activities, resource booths, ono food venders, and a special feature anti-bullying presentation (parental discretion advised) presented by HPD.
