HarvesTea benefitting rescue tubes
Island residents are invited to attend HarvesTea, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Anna Ranch Heritage Center in Waimea. In addition to the delightful experience of enjoying “tea and crumpets,” as some might refer to a tea, the main focus of HarvesTea is to bring attention to the need for Water Rescue Tubes, and their sponsorship and installation on every beach on the Big Island. HarvesTea tickets are $20.
Originally funded through the Alex and Duke DeRego Foundation, HarvesTea is an extension of the massive effort on behalf of founder, Shirley DeRego. The public is now being invited to join the vision of “Saving Lives One Tube At A Time,” while completing the goal of installing 75 additional tubes.
HarvesTea begins at 10:30 a.m., and includes a full tea-style meal, including petite sandwiches and quiche by Home Tours Hawaii, green salad courtesy of New Hope Volcano, fruit, scones, decadent desserts by all about chocolate and Home Tours Hawaii, as well as hot and cold tea sponsored by Solimeni’s. International author and Waimea resident Darian Gee will discuss the value of friendship and community as it wraps around her delightful novel entitled “Friendship Bread.” Waimea Gift Store – Bentley’s, will offer a table of tea-related merchandise. And, Shirley DeRego will share why and how the foundation was created, the focus on supporting the Junior Lifeguard Program, as well as the call to provide Rescue Tubes for island beaches.
“For those residents who are unable to attend HarvesTea, your sponsorship of a Rescue Tube is greatly needed. An individual, corporation, or combination of individuals can sponsor a tube with a tax-deductible donation of $100. This includes the tube as well as the installation hardware. You may also designate the beach of your choice from the list provided to all sponsors. And, when the installation date is determined, all sponsors will have the opportunity to be present.
Proceeds benefit the Alex and Duke DeRego Foundation — www.alexanddukederegofoundation.com. Seating is limited. To make your HarvesTea reservation, please contact Darlene Pullen at 808-220-7584 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. All reservations and payment must be received by Nov. 11. HarvesTea is sponsored by the Women’s Ministry of New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship.
