Hilo Bay Rotary gavel passed

The Rotary Club of Hilo Bay installed Cedric Mitsui, O.D., a Hilo optometrist, as president during ceremonies marking the Club’s 25th anniversary.

Outgoing president Gerry Hollins, owner of Mid-Pacific Wheels LLC bicycle center, handed over the gavel June 30 at a celebration attended by members of the Rotary Club of Higashi-Hiroshima in Japan, Hilo Bay’s sister club.

“This year marks the beginning of the next 25 years of community service for the Rotary Club of Hilo Bay,” Mitsui said. “…We will come up with new ways to engage our members and change lives, here and abroad.”

Other officers installed were Hollins, vice president; Sandra Sakaguchi, secretary, and Paula Uusitalo, treasurer. Barbara Hastings is president-elect.

During the ceremonies at the Hilo Yacht Club, members honored the Rotary Club’s founding president, Pete Muller. Muller is also a past District 5000 governor, which encompasses all the islands.

Rotary Club of Hilo Bay has more than 50 members who participate in community service projects and financially support local scholarships, local, statewide and international service.
