The Hawaii Island Landscape Association and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Cooperative Extension Service will host the fourth annual Landscape Management Conference and Trade Show on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.
This one-day educational event focuses on providing practical management tools for professional landscape gardeners. The conference is also open to property managers and the general public.
With two tracks of educational sessions, attendees can choose individual classes in tree care, turf and ornamental plant management.
The speaker line-up features local experts from the nursery and landscape industry, as well as the University of Hawaii.
The theme for this year is sustainability in landscape design and maintenance. Traditional landscape issues such as pest management, turf care and native plants for landscapes will be presented from a sustainable, or “green,” perspective. In addition, the following topics will be included:
Hawaiian agroforestry landscapes and sustainable lifestyles, harvest gardens, fruit trees for the landscape, green roof and green wall technologies, and preserving coastal palms.
Continuing education units (CEU) will be available for LICTs (formerly CLT), pesticide applicators (HDOA) and certified arborists (ISA).
The Trade Show features the latest products and services offered to Big Island landscapers and home gardeners from local suppliers. Exhibitors to date include Hawaii Grower Products, Kona Irrigation, Down to Earth Distributors, Kona Coqui Specialists, E-Scape Enterprises, Hawaiian Sunshine Nursery, Kalaoa Gardens and Kalapana Tropicals.
Cost for the conference is $90 for HILA members and $110 for non-members. Continental breakfast and lunch is included.
