Local author Lee Denning’s third novel, “Splintered Light,” was named Gold Winner in the 2013 Global e-book Awards. Much of the novel is set in a fictional enclave in the Waimanu Valley, just north of Waipio Valley on the Big Island’s rugged northeast coast.
In this story, a young girl, Eva, comes of age as the first of a new species of human. A near-god, she is forced into the role of a reluctant Second Coming of Christ. The outside world explodes with violent reaction. Eva’s inner world implodes with personal betrayal: a brilliant and charismatic televangelist with a carefully concealed moral deficit invades Eva’s affections so he can turn the incipient power of the new species to his own ends. Terrible choices confront her need to save an evolving humanity.
So far in 2013, the novel has been a winner or finalist in four other contests, in categories as diverse as science fiction, action/adventure, new age and religion. It is the final book of the Nova sapiens trilogy, following “Monkey Trap” in 2004 and “Hiding Hand” in 2008. All books are available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other booksellers in both print and e-book formats.
