PIPES symposium to wrap up 2012 session

The University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Pacific Islands Programs for Exploring Science Summer Internship Program concludes its 2012 session with the annual Student Symposium on Aug. 9 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and on Aug. 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the UHH Science and Technology Building main lecture auditorium. Admission is free and the programs are open to the public.

The program provides undergraduate students of Native Hawaiian ancestry, other kamaaina, underrepresented minorities and first-generation college students the opportunity to work in paid summer environmental internships statewide.

This year 31 students participated in project-based internships with UH faculty, partner agencies and programs and took part in a variety of conservation science and resource management-themed projects. The 2012 interns will present their work and discuss their experiences at the symposium.
