St. Joe team wins mock trial
St. Joseph High School’s Mock Trial Team won its match against Hilo High School on Jan. 29, making the team the Big Island regional champions.
This is the second year in row that St. Joseph High School has won the Big Island Tournament and the fourth time in the program’s seven-year history.
Past wins were in 2008, 2010 and 2012, according to Dr. Nathan Yocum, mock trial coach and history chair.
The Mock Trial involved a civil trial in which a victim of a school shooting sues the school for gross negligence.
The Mock Trial Team Roster includes: Tanya Burlachenko, grade 9; John Lindenau, grade 9; Sarina Wyrick, grade 10; Michelle Song, grade 10, Harriet Salvidor-Smith, grade10; Nathan Ducasse, grade 10; Olivia Brinkman, grade 10; Jayla Nakayama, grade 11; Edgar Barclay, grade 11; and Jade Thomas, grade 12.
