Teams win big at robotics contest


The Big Island Underwater (ROV) Regional took place on Saturday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo pool. This competition included students from third to eighth grade who built underwater robots to tackle missions modeled after scenarios from the ocean workplace. The competition’s class structure of beginner, intermediate and advanced complements the education pipeline by providing students with the opportunity to build upon their innovative skills. The winners were:

Scout Class Division 1 (third- to fifth-graders)

• 1st — E.B. De Silva Elementary (Hilo) {named Spyfish}

• 2nd — Earl’s Garage

• 3rd — E.B. De Silva Elementary (SEA)

Scout Class Division 2 (sixth- to eighth-graders)

• 1st — E.B. De Silva Elementary (Boss)

• 2nd — Kalaniana‘ole Elementary (Dolphin)

• 3rd — Haili Christian Schol (Little Narwhals)

Aloha Team Spirit Award, Team that displayed the most enthusiasm and encouragement to others — E.B. DeSilva Elementary (SEA)
