Alzheimer’s Association volunteers around the Big Island are gearing up for their annual signature fundraiser — the Walk to End Alzheimer’s — in the fall in Hilo and Kona.
The association is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization which provides services to the residents of the Island of Hawaii.
“This agency provides regular free presentations, support groups and counseling for forgetful individuals and their family members,” said Chris Ridley, the East Hawaii coordinator.
The West Hawaii Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be staged Sunday, Sept. 30. Everyone is invited to get involved. There will be many ways to help. Call Sheoli Makara at 238-0484 for details about the Kona event.
The East Hawaii walk will be on Oct. 6, at Mooheau Bandstand in downtown Hilo. Call Ridley at 443-7360 for more information.
“We are hoping that teams will register online, at www.alz.org/walk, by entering our local zip codes. We are looking forward to exciting events,” said Ridley. All money donated to the Big Isle events is used to help residents of this island.
