Wayne ‘Big Dog’ Joseph Scholarships available
The Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph Scholarship committee is now accepting applications for the 2013 school year. Each year the Big Island Road Runners Club awards $1,000 to one male and one female student athlete who best exemplifies excellence in running, academics, volunteerism and overall citizenship. Financial need will also be considered.
Qualified applicants must be current Big Island high school seniors involved in a running team. Applicants must have applied to and been accepted by a college, community college, apprenticeship program or vocational school. Applicants are judged on academic achievements with a GPA of at least a 2.5, and involved in volunteer activities and community service. An essay is required on “How running has influenced or affected your life.”
To apply, students may download an application from the BIRR website at www.BIRR.org or contact their senior counselor or athletic director at their school or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 5 to be considered.
