Attempted robbery at Subway
Police are seeking information on an attempted robbery Tuesday afternoon at the Subway restaurant at the corner of Kilauea Avenue and Lanakila Street in Hilo.
On Tuesday, shortly before 6 p.m. a man entered the restaurant, claimed he had a gun and demanded cash, police said. After a woman clerk refused to give him money, the suspect fled on foot up Lanikaula and may have gotten into a black Toyota four-door sedan on Kapiolani Street just off Lanikaula.
The suspect is described as Asian, 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-4, about 140 pounds with brown eyes. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a hat, dark shorts, a black-and-white flannel shirt and dark rubber shoes.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Lt. Greg Esteban at 961-2252. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
