Classical music art song recital May 4 in Hilo
Two local resident artists, Barry Brandes, bass-baritone, and Walter Greenwood, pianist, will be performing an interesting and varied program of arias and songs entitled “A Musical Journey” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at First United Protestant Church, 1350 Waianuenue Ave., in Hilo
Tickets will be available at the door: $10, students and seniors, $12, general admission.
Brandes, a former singer with The Metropolitan Opera in New York, has performed in major opera houses and concert halls in the United States and worldwide. Greenwood, organist and pianist at Christ Lutheran Church in Hilo, has performed in a wide range of churches and concert halls throughout the United States in his career of more than 30 years.
“This music of the ‘journey’ serves as a guide to the audience through several centuries in time, locations mythical and real, and many styles of opera, lied, chanson and plainsong chant,” said Brandes. Selections from Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs, and Hugo Wolf’s Morike-Lieder will be featured along with works of Mozart, Schubert and Fauré.
