Fire damages UHH complex

A smoldering fire in an industrial gas dryer caused $10,000 in smoke damage on Sunday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo athletic complex.

According to a written Fire Department statement, seven units responded to the 7:02 p.m. alarm.

The fire, which was extinguished within minutes, caused little damage beyond the dryer itself. Fire officials estimated that $1 million in property was saved.
