Fire destroyed a home in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates on Friday, the Hawaii County Fire Department reported.
The owner of the 800-square foot, one-story structure at 92-8924 Paradise Parkway, who was not identified, was standing outside the home when firefighters arrived at 10:02 a.m. Only the front wall of the building was still standing by that time.
The blaze was under control at 11:20 a.m. and out almost two hours later at 1:08 p.m. The nearest fire hydrant was on Lehua Avenue, more than two streets away in the rural subdivision, firefighters said.
A steep uphill driveway led to the building described as the property’s main dwelling surrounded by “several small makeshift structures.” No injuries were reported but property damage was estimated at $120,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
