Fire officials say a Sunday evening blaze at the Hawaiian Host macadamia nut factory in Captain Cook caused about $80,000 in damage.
Four units responded to the 5:18 p.m. alarm. The first unit arrived four minutes later and found the two-story metal warehouse building with white smoke coming out of the vents and eaves of the first-floor “sampling room.” Further inspection found the fire confined to a small room with two roaster ovens.
The fire was reported under control at 5:40 p.m. and extinguished at 6 p.m. All employees had been evacuated and no one was injured.
Fire officials estimate about $600,000 in property value saved.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
