Goodfellow Bros. Inc. has been awarded a $30.8 million contract to finish the western segment of the Saddle Road.
The Federal Highway Administration made the award earlier this month for an embankment, paving and marking of the 10.5-mile highway from the 41.5-mile marker of the existing Saddle Road to the 14-mile marker of the Mamalahoa Highway, south of the Waikoloa Road junction.
Kirkland Construction is continuing to work on a $33.7 million contract for grading, drainage and erosion control for the new road segment. If all goes according to plan, it will be open to traffic around August or September of next year.
Three other firms bid for the contract: Nan Inc., Road and Highway Builders LLC, and Isemoto Contracting Co.
