Hilo Armory closed because of broken window

The Hilo Armory closed on Monday due to a ball shattering a window on the Wailuku Drive side of the building, county Deputy Parks and Recreation Director Clayton Honma said Tuesday.

The windowpane on the top is quite large and it was teetering either way on which way the rest of the glass was gonna fall, so we ended up closing both the armory and the roadway (Wailuku Drive between Kamehameha Avenue and Keawe Street) and cordoned it off for public safety,” Honma said.

Wailuku Drive was reopened to traffic Tuesday afternoon after workers boarded off the window, Honma said.

He said replacement glass had to be ordered from Kona and the armory will remain closed until the new window is installed, at least for the remainder of this week.
