Man to be sentenced for child porn

Sentencing is set for 8 a.m. Tuesday in Hilo Circuit Court for a 58-year-old Hilo man who possessed nude photos of a teenage Kona girl.

Ken K. Fukushima, chairman of the Hilo Intermediate School Community Council, pleaded guilty on Oct. 30 to third-degree promotion of child abuse, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

The girl, who was 16 at the time and 18 now, told police she emailed the photos in November 2010 due to Internet threats. According to court documents, an individual who identified himself as “Hunter” asked her for nude photos via instant messaging on the social networking site My- space. She said that she declined at first, but then began to receive threatening messages from “Hunter” stating he would “find her and hurt her and her family.” The girl said she then sent nude photos via email.

Police traced the girl’s transmission of the photos and Fukushima was indicted by a Hilo grand jury in September.

Although Fukushima chairs the SCC at Hilo Intermediate, he is not a school employee.
