Man indicted in sister’s death
A Hilo grand jury has indicted a 27-year-old Keaau man for the death of his sister last year in a one-vehicle crash on the Rubbish Dump Road at the Hilo landfill.
The indictment, dated Oct. 3, alleges that Marco A. Delgado was “under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol” on May 29, 2011, when his 1992 Toyota SR-5 pickup truck ran off the left side of the road and dropped about 50 feet into an old rock quarry.
Police say Delgado’s sister, 22-year-old Christina L. Delgado of Santa Cruz, Calif., was pinned inside the truck after it landed on the roof, while Marco Delgado was able to free himself from the wreckage and go for help.
Fire Department personnel freed Christina Delgado from the wreckage. She was taken by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center and later flown to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where she died the following evening.
