Mountain View’s future considered

How should Mountain View look 25 years from now?

That’s what the Mountain View Community Planning Committee is hoping residents can help them answer with a new survey.

The survey, titled “Shaping Our Future,” asks residents to pick their priorities for the community and how they feel about issues such as land use, historic character, public transportation and others.

Frank Commendador, committee chair, said the survey is being distributed by volunteers at the moment but a website where it could be accessed is in the works.

Commendador said it is being distributed to community groups as well as door-to-door.

“We’re trying to shotgun this whole thing and get as many people participating,” he said.

It first became available last week. The survey will run for about 90 days.

The committee is responsible for creating a long range plan for the community as part of Hawaii County’s community development planning process.

Commendador said the committee is also hoping to distribute the survey among students when the next school year begins.
