Work is almost complete on the new Panaewa Park Covered Play Courts in Hilo. The grand opening of the 26,000-square-foot facility will be held at 10 a.m. today at Panaewa Park. The covered play court, which cost the county more than $3 million to build, features an open-air design with three regulation high school basketball courts that can be transformed into volleyball or tennis courts. It also includes a retractable overhead netting system allows the courts to be used simultaneously, according to the county.
